Biography

​

George is an organist, pianist and conductor based in London and Oxford. He is the Assistant Organist at New College, Oxford, where he accompanies and frequently directs New College Choir, helps to train the

7-13 year old choristers, and teaches Oxford undergraduates keyboard skills and composition techniques.​

 

He is a busy organ accompanist, recently accompanying an album recording and an international tour with

Tenebrae and frequently collaborating with Kantos Chamber Choir. He has also enjoyed collaborations with

Truro and Wells Cathedral Choirs. In his former role as Deputy Organist at Westminster Abbey, he regularly accompanied the Abbey Choir.
 

In 2023 George won the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition. Recent recital venues include Westminster Abbey; Thaxted Festival; Oundle International Festival; the Three Choirs Festival; King’s, St John’s and Trinity Colleges in Cambridge. He looks forward to upcoming engagements at St Thomas Fifth Avenue, New York; Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Berlin; and the Portico of Ards, Portaferry.

He played the Grand Organ part for RNCM’s production of Bernstein’s Mass in March 2023, which was shortlisted for Best Performance at in the 2023 Manchester Culture Awards. As a freelance member of the music staff at English National Opera, he played orchestral keyboard in ENO’s productions of Britten’s Peter Grimes and Ruder’s The Handmaid’s Tale. He is a busy continuo player, and has recently worked with the Academy of Ancient Music, Armonico Consort and Margaret Faultless.

He recently recorded his debut album as a piano accompanist with Grace Davidson at the Britten Studio, and in 2021 he won first prize and the accompanist’s prize in the Clare College Song Competition in Cambridge. He also enjoys working with students from the Royal Academy of Music.
 

He was Organ Scholar with the Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge between 2019 and 2022, continuing as Assistant Organist until 2023. As well as accompanying the choir’s daily sung services, he helped to train the singers and regularly conducted the choir. He recorded six albums with the choir as accompanist, soloist and conductor, and accompanied two international tours and five radio broadcasts. In November 2021 George conducted St John’s College Choir in its Advent Carol Service live on BBC Radio 3.

 

George regularly collaborates with Pimlico Musical Foundation and Tiffin School as a teacher, choir-leader and animateur.  George studied Music and German at the University of Cambridge.
